His story.

Apostle H. Royce Mitchell was born and raised in Muncie, IN.  He graduated from Muncie

Central High School in 1962.  He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era from

September 1965 to August 1967.

He surrendered his heart to the Lord in 1973, and was called to the ministry in 1974. In June of

1974 he married his wife Joyce and they raised four adult children, and remained married for

47 years until his passing in 2021.

He earned a B.S. degree in Secondary Education from Ball State University in 1978. He

became the pastor of Deliverance Temple in 1985, and was elevated to the office of Bishop in

2003, and in 2013 he was ordained as an Apostle. He was affectionately called "Bishop" by all

that knew him.

His pastoral leadership was characterized by a deep love for people, a willingness to listen, and

an unwavering commitment to biblical principles. He became known for reaching

people at their lowest, and showing them the love of Christ through his actions. He was

transparent in his preaching, which inspired others as he believed in living by precept

and example. He was a pastor, mentor, and servant leader who touched many lives with his

faith and kindness. As a spiritual father he helped to guide many men through life's joys and

challenges with wisdom, humility, and compassion.  For more than 20 years he ministered at

Pendleton and New Castle Correctional facilities, offering incarcerated individuals hope,

counsel, and a path to redemption. He showed inmates that God could change their lives despite

their past.  He firmly believed that everyone deserved a second chance because we have all made

mistakes in life.

In 1992 Bishop Mitchell served as the CEO and Co-Founder of the Conley Mitchell Alliance

For Hope, a 501C3 not for profit organization, dealing with men reentering society after being

incarcerated.  This program provided transitional housing and various programs to help these

men rebuild their lives with dignity, hope, and purpose.  Many former members of the Conley

House are now leading productive lives in their communities and helping others by telling of

their own journey of transformation.

Beyond the walls of the church, Bishop Mitchell was a pillar of our local community.  He

continually sought to make a positive difference by his involvement in our schools and numerous

boards in our city. He served as chaplain for the Police and Fire Department,

charter member of Teamwork for Quality Living, United Way, Delaware County Community

Corrections Board, Muncie Human Rights Commission just to name a few boards he served on.

Bishop Mitchell was a champion of unity, bringing people together from all walks of life for

common causes that built relationships and fostered diversity.

His legacy is not just in the work he did, but in the lives he touched. He dedicated his entire life

to serving others and going the extra mile to show them the love of God.

The family of Bishop Mitchell are confident that Bishop H. Royce Mitchell would be deeply

humbled by naming this HUB in his honor. This building will serve as a testament to his life's

work, and also serve as a reminder of the impact of a life lived in service to God and others.
